A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, January 25, regarding the postponement of the NEET PG Exam which is scheduled to take place on March 12. The plea has been filed with regard to demands from the post-graduate students that they will be unable to complete the mandatory internship period before the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test 2022.
The plea filed in the apex court challenges the condition provided in the information bulletin which provides for a deadline of May 31, 2022 for completion of internship. The delay in internships took place due to final year MBBS students being appointed for COVID duty and tackling the pandemic in India. This in result halted their internships, and due to not completing them, it would make the graduates ineligible to appear for NEET PG 2022.
The petition also challenges to violations of the NEET PG Regulations 2000. As per the regulation, 30 hospital beds have to assigned to one unit of PG students but now, two students of two different academic sessions will be accommodated together. As per the lawyers at Dubey Law Chambers, “there is an explicit cap on the number of PG admissions to be done per year per unit."
The petitioners along with many more candidates have claimed that while they were in the midst of COVID duty their internships were postponed and none of them were told that participating in front line duties could result in them becoming ineligible to appear for their post graduate exam.
